Only 18 hours until the start of the 3-day weekend! I was away at Nate's house tonight so the cats are extra-rambunctious right now. They are growing fast... pretty soon they won't look much like kittens. They can already jump about 2.5 feet up. Right now they are both crouched in stalking position, staring at each other at opposite ends of the bed. Nobody has gotten injured yet from play-fighting so I'm not concerned. Lazula is occasionally peeing in inappropriate places but she's been better about using the litterbox in the last couple days.

Mmm... sourdough, muenster, ham, pepperoni... tasty. Kitties just finished their dinner (they let me know when they are hungry; 12:30 to 8:30 was a big stretch today). They make a funny growling sound when they eat, especially if the other kitten is coming too close.

I've been ignoring / neglecting the blog because of the new kittens. Photos
So far they are doing great and they got a clean bill of health at the vet yesterday. In two weeks they get a booster shot and then rabies vac in a month. Nate came by to see them yesterday and I went over to his place to have dinner with his roommate, Logan, Ryan, and Ashley.

Apparently if you eat food in God's house, it taketh away rather than giveth calories. Some of these just scare me. What are the odds of me coming across this page and this photo in the same day?

Laser pointers... not just for cats and dogs. My betta fish like to chase and attack the red dot.
Nice beach photos.

Some of these are quite funny.

Hehe...
I was going to hotlink but then I remembered that it's SA and that's like playing with fire. Also I found a horrible website that still uses MIDI background music.
Kitties are coming a little sooner than first planned, next Tuesday; they got spayed yesterday and are doing well enough to leave right at 12 weeks.

Look what I grew:

And you all thought I had no green thumb. I don't have any special place in my heart for grass, but this is supposed to be "cat grass" which makes it special. I guess. I didn't believe the packaging which said it grew in only 4 days, but there it is; the potting soil probably helped. Actually it's been 5 days but it sprouted after 3.

Thank you CNN for switching (finally) to widescreen video format. Now if only Youtube was in widescreen all the time.

I went over to Andrew's place today to check out his home-built projection screen, which is impressive. I kinda wish I had spent the extra money on velveteen mask instead of fleece. We watched a little bit of 1080p material on his PS3 and I can't say that I have any complaints about the video playback. We stopped by Wal-Mart and he bought a Xbox 360 and HD-DVD add on drive so now he will have HD capability in both formats. I'm going to stick with 480 for now... the movies are still uncomfortably expensive at $25 to $35 when newly released. Earlier today Fedex delivered the cat tree I ordered off eBay; it was pretty easy to assemble and it probably would have cost 3x as much if I had gotten one locally. I also had time to enjoy some House episodes today and I watched Me, Myself, and Irene tonight. Before Nate left for his vacation I saw The Number 23 at his house and it was a dark, disturbing Jim Carrey movie so I needed to balance it out with some comedy. The next season of House DVDs come out in a couple weeks and the new season should be starting shortly thereafter.
I've started checking the National Geographic Wild Chronicles podcast every Friday and they have some interesting video clips. Sorta makes up for not having the TV channel available.
I don't link to Bec's blog very often but this entry from yesterday struck me as being special.

I read a short book this evening by Karen Pryor, one of the best-known animal behaviorists, about clicker training cats. It sounds really neat and I plan to try it with the bengal cats. I've seen it done in person with big cats so it can't be too difficult with the little ones. Apparently dogs take to it very well also.
I did pretty well on my sleep schedule the last two days, managed 6am on Thursday and 6:40am this morning. It would have been earlier but I fell asleep after turning off the alarm today. I'm not sure if I could pull it off on the weekends too but if I happen to wake up early tomorrow I need to wash my car since it has several hundred bugs on the front bumper from last weekend's midnight trip back from MCO. Matt paid me for the gas but I should have charged for the bugs too :)

Tonight begins my attempt to start going to bed earlier and waking up earlier. I've been wanting to get away from the wake-up-at-8am-and-rush-off-to-work thing for a while. As soon as my laptop files finish syncing to the desktop I am done for the night.
I think I have finally completed all the registration pieces that Florida Tech requires. I don't see why I had to go through their new PantherPass system since I was a previous student, but I guess for people who maybe took a few years off before grad school it would be important to update contact information and all that other stuff. It only took 3 or 4 calls to tech support to get them to fix a few bugs in their web app, but now it is fine.

Sometimes I really love woot. Check out this item description.
By the start of September I should have my first two kittens. I've been doing a lot of reading online and getting some needed supplies. This is what they look like now, but they will be about 12 weeks old when I am allowed to go pick them up. Most breeders wait until 12 weeks now so that the kittens can have early spay/neuter and get microchipped before they even leave home.

Although they look like exotics, these are a normal domestic breed called bengal cats. They are almost like dogs in several ways, namely they enjoy playing fetch, going for walks, and playing in water. Some of them also like to talk, chase flying objects, and can be clicker trained. I think some have a little hamster in them too.

Been very busy, almost no time to post anything. Class starts on the 20th and I'm still working out a few kinks with Florida Tech.
