New cell phone number: (321) 684-3267. The old T-Mobile prepaid number will still be active for a while, but no guarantees that I will be carrying that phone.
I finally caved and got an iPhone today after selling my 8GB iPod Touch. Apple actually had to send me a replacement Touch because mine died a mysterious death and refused to power on. It was a good time to sell since the replacement one was in brand new condition sealed in plastic. Best Buy was running a promo this week for Reward Zone Premier Silver members with $100 off the iPhone so I took advantage of that.
With the corporate discount via Harris Stratex my monthly rate is going to be $60.99 with 450 minutes, unlimited data, and 200 text messages. Regular rate is $74.99 without any discounts. Supposedly HSX negotiated a better 27% discount that will be taking effect soon, bringing it down to $56/month. Still more than I would like, but the convenience of one central device is worth the cost. Phone, text, email, web, music, movies, Youtube, net radio, GPS, camera, bluetooth. Soon tethering should be (legally) available, adding cellular modem capability without resorting to Jailbreaking the phone, and turn-by-turn GPS means I can sell my GPS unit also.

Today I took a road trip down to FAU in Jupiter, FL with Ryan and his friend Naim (a physics teacher at Bayside HS). We wanted to check out the Battery Beach Burnout, a big showcase event of electric and hybrid electric vehicles. Naim was interested because he has some students working on an electric Triumph Spitfire roadster. It was fun, got a lot of pictures and information. I got to see a Tesla roadster in person finally, and it participated in the "drag strip" which was just a 60-foot launch time trial. There were some other really fast electric cars as well, all of them homebrew. One guy who lives near Melbourne had a pickup truck running a pack of 40 12-volt batteries, and he was able to smoke the tires down the whole stretch with all the torque.
A couple high school teams brought their cars, including one that traveled all the way from Virginia. They brought an electric Datsun and they kept the clutch installed in order to allow motor spool-up before launch. Florida Tech was there with the hybrid race car, but it is still in progress so it wasn't driveable. The local Toyota dealership brought a Prius and Camry hybrid, there were quite a few other Priuses there as well including a few plug-in modified versions. Several Honda insights as well, the older 2-seater design. Nissan had a show car that was hybrid Ethanol/electric based on the Altima platform. Other notable cars included an electric Scion xB, several electric Porsches, an electric DMC DeLorean complete with flux capacitor and Back To The Future sound effects, and a Solarcycle racer that is competing for the Progressive X-Prize.
After lunch there was an autocross event with some scooters and bikes. All the car autocross events are being held tomorrow, but we were just going for the 1 day so we won't be seeing that part.

Who didn't see this coming? I think to have any chance of surviving those two companies are going to have to merge. Ford can probably stand alone since it has more cash and better upcoming car models, but GM and Chrysler are in dire trouble.
This commercial caught by attention on TV tonight. Also, Centraal Beheer in the Netherlands is still making their funny insurance commercials. Still nothing that tops the classic lion one though.
There's a used car dealership here in Melbourne that has some of the craziest commercials and informercials. It's always the same big guy too. Here's a compilation on youtube. They recently ran one on TV where he talked in a Chinese accent throughout the whole commercial. We only saw it once, it probably got pulled from the air. Another odd one.

Alec Baldwin plays the Wii (SNL).
We had today off from work, so I took my car in for routine service this morning. Another really nice day outside. I also tried Red Box rental service for the first time. I got the "Wanted" blu-ray last night at Wal-Mart for $1 and returned it today.
Adam and I went over to Ryan's house today to check out the electric car. He gave each of us a quick ride around the neighborhood, up to about 40mph. He's got the motor, controller, and 72volt battery bank installed, but the rest of the car needs some work. Like most Karmann Ghias, his has a bit of rust on it. Harris is adding some "green car" parking spots at work, so he might be able to park right next to the building once he starts using the electric car as a daily driver.

Michael Phelps lost his Kellogg's sponsorship. Considering the origins of Kellogg's, color me unsurprised. Yogurt enemas are fine but don't you let them catch you with a bong.
The other sponsors aren't quite so concerned.
