I've been reading some Penny Arcade strips tonight, including this funny one (language). Quite a few of them are misses for me, because I haven't played the referenced video game. Still some good ones though.

I went with some folks to see the Indiana Jones movie last night at The Oaks. We got there at 9pm and tickets were already sold out for the 9:15pm showing. So we chose 9:45 instead and waiting in the quickly-forming line. By the time they let us into the auditorium, the line was stretching outside the theater down past the Ben and Jerry's. It was definitely an action-packed movie, with good performances overall. Not a huge fan of the casting of Shia but he did ok. John Hurt as Ox was fantastic though. The movie dives into the supernatural world, and things get weird by the end. Still, there is plenty of classic Indiana Jones in the movie and it doesn't really feel like 20 years later except for the CGI elements.

Great new video from Weezer called Pork and Beans.

Is it bad that I've seen every pop-culture reference Internet clip that they include in the music video?

Despite what the digg commenters might say, this is not part of normal Best Buy employee training. It's lacking music so just use your imagination until a remix version shows up on Youtube. Wait, there already is one.

Enrollment in my Operating Systems class dropped from 12 to 4 in one week. I guess Rhian made a great first impression.

Great article from The Guardian.

I made my first authentic digital music purchase today, from Amazon of all places. The tracks I got from iTunes store a few years ago don't count, they were free from Pepsi caps. I hate the idea of buying MP3 music, not just for the lossy bitrate but also from the lack of a physical CD and liner notes. However, $0.99 for a full 12-track album from a band I like is too hard to turn down. Plus a part of me wants to support a push for lower-cost digital music distribution. It's far too easy to find a torrent tracker and download an album in MP3 format for free. Sure, it might only be 128kbps, and the ID3 tags might be a little "off," but it doesn't cost anything.

Amazon's MP3 downloader is lightweight and doesn't stay running in the background. It quickly downloaded all the DRM-free tracks to my PC, plus automatically loaded them into my iTunes library without any user interaction. Album artwork already in place. It can do the same thing for Windows Media Player if that is your primary music player. If Amazon offered the majority of albums for $0.99 I would "own" (license?) far more music.

Looking forward to Hell's Kitchen tonight. I am way too hooked on that show now, and I don't even like cooking. I never thought I would enjoy reality TV, but I'll admit it can be entertaining.

Interesting conclusion to Season 4 of House this evening. Very sad and emotional at the end.

I enjoy The Office quite a bit, and this Japanese spoof from SNL is hilarious. Make sure to catch the ending comment from Ricky Gervais. I have yet to see the UK version, but someday...

Something a little different regarding Prince Caspian.

I saw the movie tonight, with a free movie coupon no less. I watched the first one just a few days ago with Adam and Tammy since Adam hadn't seen it before or read the book. It might actually be the most action-packed movie I've seen that has kept a PG rating. That's not necessarily a good thing though, because it seems like they put a little too much focus on the battles and fighting scenes and not enough time with character development and "quieter" scenes. I was also disappointed with the movie's score, which sounded like it was mostly recycled from the first movie.

This past week has been pretty busy. Performance reviews were due Thursday so I was working on that, plus my first Operating Systems class was on Thursday evening. I've got Rhian Resnick as a teacher and he's been doing lots of IT work for Florida Tech for the past 10 years. It will be challenging though, especially since the summer term is only 11 weeks long.

On Wednesday I gave Felipe a ride over to the bodyshop at lunchtime. His 2007 Honda Accord was damaged from debris on the highway during his week-long vacation trip. Whatever it was put a big dent in his front bumper and the whole thing had to be replaced to the tune of $800. What was very interesting though, was another car we saw at the bodyshop with rear-end damage. A 2006 Lamborghini Murcielago in black. Base cost $328k. They didn't live in Melbourne, had Ohio tags. The car was larger than I expected, very wide and huge tires on the front and back. Lots of traction is required though for a V12 engine. The Murcielago is also the worst EPA gas mileage passenger vehicle in the USA, with 7 MPG in the city.

I just got my grades for Java 2 today, I ended up with an A after all. I got a 91 on the final and a 90 on the big project. Although, I definitely did not complete 90% of the project requirements so the teacher was a bit lenient there.

Today we had our CEO visit at NetBoss, Harald Braun. I only saw him during the all-hands meeting, but he was a good speaker despite the German accent. Within a few months the folks here in Melbourne should know how NetBoss is going to fit into his "strategic plan."
