The Dow fell 777 points today. Unfortunately it's not Vegas and 777 doesn't equal big winnings.

The bank holding my checking account is now Citigroup, after they acquired Wachovia today. My credit card recently switched from WaMu to JPMorgan when they acquired WaMu. At the end of the day I still have the same amount of assets and liabilities, so I guess that's what really matters. The 401k is going to look nasty for a while though.

I bet I don't get any new credit card offers in the mail for a long time.

I can't help but reflect back on the video Money as Debt.

Circuit City will probably be going down soon. Based on the lack of customers I've seen when I visit our local store, I am not surprised. Even on weekends it is pretty dead.

It's a bit early for Halloween stuff, but check out spooky scary skeletons anyway.

I cleaned my carpets this weekend, so that was time consuming. Also got Kingdom of Heaven on blu ray which was amazing. Iron Man is out in a couple days and that should also be amazing.

Ron Paul knows his stuff. Too bad he didn't win the Republican ticket this year.

I think I know what I want for Christmas. How about some economic stability in the USA? El presidente G.W. had a quote today saying "Our entire economy is in danger." Which probably makes McCain feel even worse about his recent statement that the US economy is fundamentally sound. I don't think it's a simple case of pessimist versus optimist either; Bush is usually optimistic.

I finished Brisingr yesterday, and still had time to watch the season premiere and 2nd episode of House M.D. Another couple years to wait for book 4 most likely. Like Harry Potter all over again. They did 550,000 copies on Saturday out of 2.5M first run print which ain't bad.

Oh yeah, speaking of House, some idiot (or idiots) at Fox decided that it would be a Good Idea to post episodes online 8 days after their original air date. Maybe they weren't aware of this, but the next new episode airs only 7 days later. Making it oh-so-very-convenient to catch up on a missed show.

I got 33 tracks of Pearl Jam hits at Best Buy for $9.99 today. There are still some good values in music out there. Not quite as good as those $0.99 albums at Amazon though. I've also been trying to get the free singles that are on iTunes every week.

Felipe has been on vacation this week so I've been getting hit with more than the usual amount of problems and requests. The human brain was not meant to Alt-Tab between a dozen things at a time.

I don't remember whether I advertised sxephil on here before, but I have been enjoying his show on Youtube. Me and several hundred thousand others. He has a very harsh sense of humor sometimes, but stick with it. Also: one of the best internet ads I have ever seen. Make sure you watch the whole video.

Florida Tech is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Kinda forgot to mention that before. So there have been various events so far surrounding that idea, and homecoming this year is supposed to be huge, amazing, and better than ever. Which I'm willing to wager will still be pathetic compared to a lot of other schools. There's still that whole no-football-team issue. Even though I don't care about football.

How To Hook Up Your Home Theater with Goofy. On Youtube (for now anyway), originally was screened before National Treasure 2 in theaters. Don't forget the "all-important subwoofer" ;)

Microsoft goes Back to the Future. OUTATIME indeed.

Today I picked up a copy of Brisingr even though I fell behind in my attempt to finish re-reading Eldest before this weekend. Trying to read as much as I can, but there are always distrations and last night I was too tired to stay up late. Since I have that one in PDF form I have been using my widescreen monitor in portrait mode which works very well for long pages of text (or web pages).

Hollywood lies... prison doesn't look that bad. Those guys already have enough material to release a full-length DVD.

Of course when they get released there might be some inexplicable murders of 80's era pop singers.

All I want for Christmas is... oh wait, not that. Definitely not that. Karma strikes back at China for selling toys with lead paint? You decide...

Once depleted, no refunds allowed. :)

Of all the animals to be stranded with inside a church. Happy ending at least.

Craigslist is a nasty place for any sort of political discussion, but I saw this post today and thought it wasn't too bad overall while also being amusing.

I have been watching some of the speeches on Youtube. Both camps, not just Obama/Biden.

This is how we do Lite-Brite in 2008. Still can't compete with the Last Supper Lite-Brite creation.

Wow. Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch. One now bankrupt and one in trouble.

I got a seemingly random instant message today from Jenny (from NCSSM), who I haven't chatted with in a long time. She reminded me that the investment bank she worked for in NYC was Lehman Brothers. Turns out she quit a week ago because she was very frustrated/unhappy with the job and not liking NYC much anymore, I guess the timing worked out since nobody has a job at Lehman as of today. She and her boyfriend might be moving back to NC now to get away from "big city" life.

Sarah Conner Chronicles and Prison Break at Adam's place tonight. I haven't really been following either season but it will be fun to hang out anyway.

Hurricane Ike really did a number on Galveston and surrounding areas in Texas. CNN has been running front-page features all day about the flooding and damage, which was much more than expected for a category 2 storm.

Over here in Florida, gas prices have been all over the place. Yesterday at work I read that Talahassee had gas for $5.49 a gallon and they were predicting more increases. Today in Melbourne, Andrew told me he saw gas for $4.45 up in Rockledge. I filled up at a Hess station that was still $3.69 a gallon so I guess they hadn't bumped it up yet. In a week or two it will probably be back to normal.

Well for the last 48 hours or so I was avoiding wunderground, but just checked and it looks like Cuba is going to get the impact of Ike instead of South Florida.

Watching The Daily Show and Colbert Report on hulu; those two shows make election season tolerable. Especially this last week with the RNC. Daily Show's juxtaposition of G.W. and McCain's "changes" was excellent.
